Alaska Mission Adventures evolved out of a vision to provide a unique missions experience that focused on youth leadership development. Our goal is to embrace the emerging leadership potential existing in today's youth generation, helping them discover their potential, affirm their giftedness, and embrace leadership positions within their schools, churches and communities. The uniqueness of this experience is based on our location (doesn't get any better than Alaska), the ten-day structure (which allows for quiet reflection while being affirmed within the context of community), the opportunity to serve (each experience creates ways for students to serve), and spiritual formation (within the context of an intense discipleship journey). The results are amazing, with most participants embracing a greater purpose and meaning within their reality, and several pursuing vocational careers that provide opportunities to lead and serve.

Alaska Mission Adventures
is a unique mix of intense experiences designed to equip and empower youth to become Christ-centered leaders in their world! Each participant will have the opportunity to:

  • ENCOUNTER the presence of Christ through daily reflection and quiet time

  • ENHANCE their emerging leadership skills, discovering ways to maximize their impact

  • SERVE others who need to experience the love of Christ

  • BUILD endurance and perseverance through challenging projects

  • DEVELOP a sense of community through living and working as a team

  • DISCOVER the value of encouraging one another through various group building exercises

  • IDENTIFY and implement spiritual gifts through journaling and campfire devotions

  • EXPERIENCE God in the breathtaking wilderness of His most awesome handiwork.

Alaska Mission Adventures began in 1998 with a group from Rosewood Reformed Church in Jenison, Michigan. This was a pilot group formed by Eaglecrest to field test the feasibility of this innovative missions / leadership development experience. While serving at Victory Bible Camp in Alaska, the leaders of Eaglecrest witnessed first hand the potential of such an experience. Several youth responded to the challenges presented, while Eaglecrest and Victory began to form a working partnership. From this first experience, 68 groups representing 1311 students and adults have participated in an AMA experience.  In 2005, Eaglecrest received the donation of 13 acreas of property on the Matanuska River in the small town of Sutton.  Development began in 2006 and the first groups began to utilize this new camp in 2007.  Beginning in 2009, all groups are now staying and working out of this new location, now called Camp Eaglecrest.

Since that first group, God continues to pave the way for Alaska Mission Adventures to expand into different ministry contexts.  Opportunities are now provided for both youth and inter-generational groups to invest in the local community, becoming the hands and feet of Christ to many along the Matanuska Valley.  Consider joining us this next year and making a difference as you serve and care for others.
